6 The verbal paradigm, irregularity and suppletion
quickinfo

The verbal paradigm has been discussed from a morphological point of view in the chapters on the morphology of Saterland Frisian. Furthermore, a division of irregular verbs into classes was presented there which was diachronically motivated, see Hoekstra & Slofstra (2023). However, the question arises what the verbal paradigm looks like from a purely synchronic point of view, as it is encountered by language learners today. Hence we will present some synchronic systematicities in the Saterland Frisian verbal paradigm. In addition, Saterland Frisian features some interesting instances of suppletion, which will be presented and discussed in this chapter as well. These instances are taken from J. Hoekstra (2008).
