Nominal synthetic compounds

Building Frisian complex nouns by way of synthetic compounding is a rather marginal affair in that only two patterns can be observed. The first pattern consists of a noun, a verb and the suffix -er. An example is keunstkender art-know-SUFF art connoisseur. The other pattern also shows the suffix -er, which is then preceded by a numeral and a noun. An example is tsientonner ten-ton-SUFF truck which can load ten tons.

For more information, the user is referred to the topics on the two patterns:

  • For the pattern with noun, verb and suffix, see the topic N+V+er.
  • For the pattern with number, noun and suffix, see the topic Num+N+er.
