quickinfo

Speaker-oriented interjections are possible in V2-clauses. Hence they are found in main clauses displaying V2 as well as in NCV2s.

Speaker-oriented interjections are banned from embedded clauses not displaying Verb-Second, such as the following:

Example 1

*Jouke hie sein godskes Ot en Sien trouwe moasten

Jouke had said, gosh, Ot and Sien had to marry

They are found in Verb-Second clauses, regardless of whether these occur as main clauses or as UCV2s:

Example 2

a. Godskes, Ot en Sien moatte trouwe!
gosh Ot and Sien must marry
Gosh, Ot and Sien have to marry!
b. Jouke hie sein, godskes, Ot en Sien moatte trouwe!
Jouke had said gosh Ot and Sien must marry
Jouke had said, gosh, Ot and Sien have to marry!
