-ysk
quickinfo

The suffix -ysk takes non-native nominal bases in order to form adjectives. Examples are oseaanocean > oseanyskoceanic, kommunistcommunist > kommunistyskcommunistic and kwadraatsquare > kwadratyskquadratic. In many cases this suffixation brings along changes in the base form and insertion of intermediate sounds. The semantics of these derivations is diverse, but in many cases it can be described as "in relation with {noun}", "concerning {noun}" or "of the kind of {noun}".

It should be noted that the suffix -ysk may also derive adjectives from geographical names. For more details, see the topic on -ysk with a geographical name as base and -sk with geographical name as base.
