Bare adpositions may be used to modify spatial Adposition Phrases (PPs).

Bare adpositions include modifiers derived from prepositions, such as efter, achterto the back, foarin the front. Adpositional modifiers combine with other prepositions to specify their spatial meaning:

Example 1

a. Achter yn 'e bak
behind in the box
In the back part of the box
b. Ûnder yn 'e bak
below in the box
In the bottom part of the box
c. Rjochts ûnder yn 'e bak
right below in the box
In the bottom part of the box on the right

Temporal PPs tend to be modified by adjectives, as in the following:

a. Djip yn 'e hjerst
deep in the autumn
Deep into autumn
b. Let yn 'e maitiid
late in the spring
